facebook addicts beware!
if you have hard time turning off halo 3 or shutting down the facebook and myspaces, you might want to consider checking yourself into ReSTART, a new video game and internet addiction recovery program. located in fall city, washington, the 45 day program will cost you $24,500. program participants are given regular schedules for the day that include chores such as taking care of the livestock that live on the land, daily counseling sessions which focuses on long-term goals and weekly therapy session with a specialist in video game and internet addiction.
the ReSTART program is the first of its kind in the united states but similar programs exist in amsterdam and china. although video game and internet addiction is not considered an official disease, meaning it’s not included in the diagnostic and statiscal manual of mental disorders, none are disputing that it’s an issue of addiction much like gambling. said dr. charles o’brien, current chair of the committee tasked with revising the manual “The central issue is the absence of research literature on this. We are probably going to mention it in the appendix.”
