a bridge to somewhere…

three boroughs, to be exact.  i was out the other day with a friend that was concerned about the cost associated with changing the name of the triborough bridge to the rfk bridge to honor slain senator robert f. kennedy.  the cost to change the 139 signs in 2011 will be close to $4M.  in the short term (the 6 months) the state will spend $100K to replace replace 12 large overhead road signs and 40 smaller signs. if the economy is still in the crapper in 2011, the state can implement a plan be that costs less. the reason my friend brought this up is because of the budget crisis confronting the city.  mayor bloomberg just announced the following:

the state’s troubles are even worse.  when my friend brought this up, it seemed like a good thing to be annoyed about. but with the announcement today that aig is getting MORE MONEY and the fact that we give a nice allowance to the first family to renovate the white house to make the people’s house “theirs”, i’m thinking, we could spend $100K now and maybe more later to honor a man that gave his life fighting for peace and justice (helping to pave the way for the events of last week).

i’m just saying.  what do you think?
