bill gates – act II

will bill gates remember which office to go to monday morning? when lost in thought he apparently sometimes drives to the microsoft offices without realizing it. let’s hope he doesn’t forget he gave a teary farewell speech to microsoft employees last week when he retired from his full time position as microsoft’s chief software architect. gates is walking off into the sunset, kinda of, so that he can focus full time on the bill & melinda gates foundation. i say kinda of because he still holds the chairman title at microsoft and plans to “spend more than 40 hours a week on philanthropy, leaving 15 or so for his duties” at microsoft. since founding microsoft in 1975, gate’s accomplishments (and failures) have been very public. the foundation’s work, known to be the world’s largest philanthropic organization in the world with $37.6 billion in assets, has been equally public. with a trusee of three – bill, melinda gates, who apparently is a superstar in her own right, and warren buffet – we can no doubt expect to see some interesting work come out of the foundation in the next few years.
