i’m not sure what mac cosmetics or sanrio were thinking when they came up with their partnership that created the hello kitty color cosmetics line. according to john demsey, group president of estee lauder cos. (mac’s parent company), “this is a sexy and innocent fashion line, and a true MAC moment. In these times, everyone can use a little fun — and a little Kitty. She may not have a mouth, but she’s going to sell a lot of lipstick.” two separate collections, the hello kitty colour collection and the higher end hello kitty kouture are available both in stores and on mac’s website. strange as the partnership may seem, mac’s idea of promoting it is even odder. check out the video ad below about 2 minutes in.
licensing of hello kitty products is huge in asia, especially japan where you can go to the sanrio theme park, buy a hello kitty car or a hello kitty assault rifle. if you’re a fan, you might want to check out hello kitty hell for items to add to your collection.
