check this out!

soon, the iphone really will do anything.  usaa, a private bank with only one branch in san antonio, tx and with customers all over the world will update its iphone application to allow customers to deposit checks.  users will be able to take a copy of the front and the back of the check and send the image to the bank using usaa’s app for the iphone. customers won’t need to mail the check to the bank for verification, it will all happen electronically.  the bank’s executive vice president, wayne peacock said “mobile is going to be a bigger part of how people do commerce and how they interact with their financial institutions…the great value that we see is the time savings.”

the service won’t be available to everyone–it’s only for customers who can get credit and have insurance through usaa (about 60% of customers).  i think they coulda used some more exciting people to demo the app, but you get the idea.
