if you’re a fan of peter, lois, meg, chris, stewie and brian (the cast of family guy), get ready to look for seth macfarlane’s new show, seth macfarlen’s cavalcade of cartoon comedy, online. unlike previous episodes of family guy that were viewable only on the internet, macfarlane’s new show will be distributed only through google’s adsense advertising network. what that means is instead of going online to watch a whole episode in one viewing, the new show will be delivered in 50 two-minute episodes with advertising. the two-minute episodes will be bundled with either banner ads, text messages or video ads that runs before the episode. as one who occasionally watches tv online, i hate the commercials that i have to endure before my show comes on. i can only imagine how annoyed i’ll be to have to watch a commercial for a two-minute episode.
macfarlene is a genius for coming up with this unique distribution method. not only will he get a portion of the advertising revenue, he’s also got deals where he’s getting $$ to create some of the animated commercials that will run with his two-minute episodes.
