einstein had speech difficulties as child*
aw damn. i find out today that i may’ve been responsible if my friend’s kids were “slow”. a few years ago when all my friends starting having babies, my default gift was the baby einstein dvds. back then, things were different and the baby einstein dvds were the only “educational” items available.
today brings news the baby einstein company is offering a limited money back guarantee to people who owned their products in response to a study that finds videos for children aged 8-16 months are associated with slower development. for each hour of viewing, there was a decrease in vocabulary of 6-8 words.
so here’s a public apology to my friends. ..hope your kids turned out ok. if not, send the product back to disney (the parent company for baby einstein) and get your $15.99.
*einstein reportedly didn’t speak until he was almost 3 and speak full sentences until he was 9.

The big sell about the videos were that you could put your kid down to the video and get other things done. Guess it shouldn’t be suprising to that it takes longer for kids to develop if the parents don’t interact with them.
