fancy sigg bottle not so fancy now
it was only a couple of years ago when everyone was trading their plastic water bottles for an aluminum one for fear of bisphenol-a (bpa). sigg, by far the most popular maker of the metal bottles, has just released a statement saying that some of their water bottles (those produced before august 2008) contained trace amounts of bpa in the bottle liner. steve wasik, the company’s ceo, says that the nondisclosure was not really an issue because the concern over bpa revolved around leaching and sigg’s bottles have showed to have 0% leaching. consumers don’t agree.
sigg is working on damage control now and is considering a trade in program for old bottles. meanwhile, competitors like camelback and klean canteen are swooping in to reassure consumers that their products are bpa free.
