good times!
in an earlier post i made reference to cocoa puffs and how some lady was koo koo for them. which relates to a branding story i read about a couple weeks in the new york times. chicago-based river west brands is helping to bring to market some of the old favorites from the olden days (um, 1970s, 80s, and 90s). they are bringing back things like salon selectives (remember that apple pectiny smell) and brim (fill it to the rim with brim) because of the indelible mark these brands have made on the american consumer’s mind (and the upside potential). kellogg just announced it would be bringing back hydrox to battle giant oreo once again (for a limited time).
this morning on today, matt lauer said that these and other brands remind us of a time when we were happier and safer (given the woes of today) and i agree with him. people must have felt really safe way back when three mile island went pear shaped, sting was singing about nuclear winter and the arms race, and the space shuttle challenger blew up. good times.
