how hungry are you?

377387278_9558908a7cwe’re use to bidding in auctions for things like electronics, toys and collectibles and in the past couple of years, ebay has even become common place for the auction of cars, houses, and the occasional body part. since everyone’s trying to save a buck, food auctions are the new thing now, popping up in more than nine states. outfitted with an auctioneer, a recent auction in dallas found values like 10 baby ruths for $2, an 11 oz bag of cheese curls for $1.75, six boxes of frozen broccoli for $2 and 14lbs of pork ribs for $20. food auctions carry leftover or damaged dry and frozen food from various places such as supermarkets, distribution centers and restaurant suppliers. often items are past their sell-by-date. auctioneers and bidders are quick to point out that even though the items maybe past their sell-by-date, the food and drug administration does not prohibit the sale of the food and that the dates are more to ensure quality than safety.
