how’d that work out?
yesterday congressman gary ackerman of new york had a chat with the securities and exchange commisison (s.e.c.) yesterday about the madoff scandal. here are some of the zingers.
while it makes for good theater, some people think it’s a bit disingenuous. here’s some things ackerman didn’t say:
- bernie madoff contributed to his campaign.
- he’s vice-chair of the subcommittee that oversees the SEC but until now, he’s had no criticism of the s.e.c. or any legislative attempts to curb their powers.
- many of ackerman’s constituents have been hit hard by the madoff scandal, he needs to look good in their eyes if he wants to ge re-elected.
i don’t think ackerman is alone in this behavior. remember when congress was outraged about the use of steroids in baseball (omg, they dope)? or when the enron imploded (omg, they lied?).
am i the only one who thinks our elected officials are often like narcoleptics driving 18 wheelers across country?
