it’s all good until the fda catches up with you
you might be seeing a change on the cheerios cereal box soon. according to the fda, general mills (the maker of cheerios) was making “unapproved drug claims” about its toasted whole grain oat cereal when it advertised that it can lower cholesterol by 4% in six weeks. according to the fda, companies are not allowed to state specific degrees on risk reduction that results from a whole grain oats diet when it comes to heart disease. cheerios has 15 days to correct the infraction. for those of who think this is a free pass to eat frosted flakes instead of cheerios, you can forget it. according to the general mills spokesperson the message has been featured on the box for the past two years and “the clinical study supporting Cheerios’ cholesterol-lowering benefit is very strong.”
