kimora keeps her title, for now…
i guess kimora lee simmons will be glad that this year, no one will be surpassing her vuitton collection that makes her a self-titled”fly bitch“. young japanese women have lost their wanderlust and are staying close to home. according to the washington post:
“the primary engine of decades of sustained growth in foreign travel has been the papanese woman, age 20 to 29. in tireless pursuit of the newest clothes, restaurants, hotels and beach resorts, she was more likely than anyone in this country — including middle-age businessmen — to jet out of japan and spend money. in the past five years, though, she has lost her will to roam.”
the article attributes the decline to a) the rise of terrorism and disease making japanese young people more conservative and risk averse and b) the decrease in wages due to the fact that the majority of part time positions in japan are filled by those in their 20s.
in these worrisome times i wonder if prime minister fukuda told everyone to go shopping.
