todd davis has publicly displayed his social security number in billboards, on ads and on the company’s website daring people to try to steal his identity. his company, lifelock, provides identity protection theft prevention services with a $1 million dollar service guarantee. so it goes to say that davis was pretty confident that his identity was safe. surprise surprise, two years later we find out that there’s been at least 20 applications for a driver’s licenses with his social security number and 87 attempts at stealing his identity. now there are three lawsuits against him claiming his services didn’t work, not even for himself.

it seems that in an attempt to sell his company’s services, davis forgot the first rule of fraud prevention – only share your social security when absolutely necessary.
