hot enough for you?
for those of you who like it spicy, you might want to check out the jailhouse fire hot sauce. made by inmates at the hillsborough county jail, the sauce comes in three varieties, original, smoke and no escape. if you want the full jailhouse experience, you might want to put a few dashes into your bologna sandwich or spaghetti.
the recipe was created by the inmates in the jail and the sauce is made from peppers grown in the jailhouse greenhouse. the $7 bottles of hot sauce has brought in about $10,000 since 2005, the income goes back into the maintenance of the greenhouse and the purchase of supplies. it looks like they’re planning to continue to expand the business with a new flavor, misdemeanor, being released soon. clearly the jail scenes in the movies and television are not doing it justice because who would’ve guessed (at least not me) that you can get “local” produce in jail.
