thanks, i think
target, the hippest store on the block has changed its policy about returns. consumer reports thinks the new policy is great, if you can read through the red tape. here are the details:
- lost receipts: customers can return as many items as they want in a 90 day period without a receipt for a total value of up to $70 bones (before it was 12 months and a total of $35 bones).
- gift registries: custies* returning items purchased on a registry can use the registry list as a receipt (brides can get rid of the 20 gallon sangria kit)–before it was only two items that could be returned with a total value of $35 bones each.
- elfin magic: holiday gift items can be exchanged evenly without a receipt. even better, if you want to exchange something for something that costs less, you’ll get a gift card for the difference. the only catch is that you’ll need to use it in the same department.
consumer reports thinks this is all a bit too complicated and that target should use a policy like walmart’s that “lets you return just about anything without a receipt up to three times within 45 days (records are kept for six months). if you exceed that, a manager has to approve the return. if the price of the item is $25 or less, wal-mart gives you cash or a gift card to use anywhere in the store.”
