time for a diet
the next time you walk into your grocery store, be prepared to pull out a few extra bucks. the severe weather and the floods hitting the midwest has cause prices to go up on staple items such as beef, milk, sugar and flour. in iowa alone, 1.2 million acres of corn has been lost. expect to see higher prices on corn dependent items such as pork, beef, chicken and animal products such as milk, cheese, eggs (animal feed is made from mostly corn). Sweetners, ethanol, toothpaste and some plastics also, apparently, contain corn.
hawaii is the double wammy state. since most of the hawaii’s food is imported from los angeles, hawaiians are feeling the pain from both the bad weather and the higher fuel cost. orange juice is reportedly going for $10 a gallon and hawaiians are seeing prices of 28% higher for eggs , 50% higher for white flour, and 15% higher for milk and white bread from last year.
climbing food and gas prices, bad weather, and a sagging economy – it’s going to be one hell of a summer.
