when being viral is a good thing

the story about bundling what use to be traditional television programs with online advertising made me think of all the viral ads i’ve been seeing online lately. here’s a few that have been making the rounds:

jcpenney: after winning a prestigious advertising award, it was discovered that this ad was neither commissioned nor approved by jcpenney. ironically “speed dressing”, in which tennagers practice gettings dressed and undressed before meeting up for a rendezvous in the basement, is thought to likely be one of jcpenney’s most successful.

cardo systems: these popcorn popping ad first made the rounds of the internet as one person forwarded it to another out of fear that cellphone radiation could indeed pop corn. when it was revealed to be advertisement for bluetooth headsets, they continued to be circulated among friends trying to figure out how the creators made the corn pop.

wanted: a glimpse into a office through a security camera shows a guy totally losing it and completely trashing the office. turns out it’s suppose to “invoke themes of escaping one’s everyday life” and make you want to run to the movies to see the angelina’s new flick, wanted.

budweiser: this one’s a little older but seems to be a internet favorite. taking the concept of a swear jar into the office, budweiser shows just what lengths people will go to for a bud.

ah yes, i saw this one a few days ago and wondered why it was causing so much controversy. considering what’s on tv these days, seems pretty tame to me.
