maybe they were on to something*

cubicleduring my first few weeks at my horrible old job, i was forced to sit through a skit in which people identified the hallmarks of good and bad office behavior.  they followed-up the skit with a handbook in case you wanted a reference guide.  since most of you haven’t had the pleasure of working at that place i not-so-lovingly called h-e-double-hockey sticks (see below), careerbuilder.com has created a list of the top six rude things you can do in the work place.   here they are:

  1. interrupting people – “when you interrupt someone, you suggest that your time and ideas are more important than everyone else’s and that you have no interest in listening to what they have to say.”
  2. forgetting to say thank you and please- ”a few words to show gratitude can put someone in a good mood — or at the very least can keep someone out of a foul mood.”
  3. being a slob – “maids don’t work in the office, so [people] should clean up after themselves.”
  4. swearing – “when it comes to r-rated language, one person’s “hell” is another person’s “h-e-double hockey sticks.”
  5. loud talking – “never mind how annoying it is to hear a conversation you’re not a part of; think how bothersome it is to try to concentrate on work when someone’s blathering in your ears.”
  6. ignoring people – “all anyone wants is an acknowledgement that you see them and that you’re not going out of your way to avoid having any contact with them.”

i still think annoying office lingo is a bigger crime.

*nah, that place sucked.
