you might be better off with the meat
if you’re a vegetarian and you eat a lot of soy products, you’ll need to read the new study from the cornucopia institute, behind the bean. the study finds that soy might not be as healthy as we think. soybeans are typically put in a hexane bath to help remove the oil, making it lower in fat that it would be otherwise. unfortunately, hexane is classified by the epa as an air pollutant and neurotoxin. factory workers who have been exposed to hexane have developed skin and nervous system disorders.
when buying soy products, go for the “organic” products but beware, “natural” is not the same as “organic”. soy burgers are pretty popular these days, both among the meat and meatless eaters. here’s a list provided from the report of a few of the popular brands to avoid and to eat:
filled of nasty hexane toxics:
- amy’s kitchen
- boca burger, conventional
- franklin farms
- garden burger
- it’s all good
- lightlife
- morningstar farms
- president’s choice
- trader joes
safe to eat, for now until they find something else wrong:
- boca burgers “Made with organic soy”
- helen’s kitchen
- morningstar “Made with organic”
- superburgers by turtle island
- tofurky
- wildwood
