you can let anyone pull the plug now
yesterday president obama asked the dept of health and human services to require all medicare and medicaid funded hospitals to mandate equal visitation rights. this is a big deal since the change will require hospitals to allow patients to designate who can visit and make decisions of their care. this has been an issue for lgbt families where partners are often not allowed to visit or have a say when their partners are in a critical state because they are not legally married (can’t win this one since gay marriage is still not allowed). this new move from obama is said to be inspired by janice langbehn and lisa pond. pond and their adopted daughter was denied visitation rights to langbehn after she suffered an aneurysm and she died alone in the hospital.
