i am god….
in research conducted by stanford business school professors nathanael fast and deborah gruenfeld designed to understand the societal impact of power, they found that found that “some of history’s most tragic failures and inspiring successes were orchestrated by power holders who overestimated their abilities to control future outcomes.” it seems that power makes people “lose touch with reality in ways that lead to overconfident decision-making.” the article cites examples of this in history:
- the wall street implosion
- bill and hillary’s foray into healthcare back in 1992
- george w. bush and iraq
- john f. kennedy and the bay of pigs
i’m inclined to believe that power does corrupt. look at this clip from the movie malice. power had an obvious and opposite effect on the stars. nicole kidman shrank to a former version of herself, alec baldwin grew another version of himself. power does corrupt indeed.
