and we can’t agree on healthcare?
here’s an interesting study about top-of-mind issues for americans:
- 97% of americans support the prohibition of texting while driving.
- 88% support a ban on talking on a hand-held cellphone while driving.
- 50% say that those caught texting while driving should get the same penalty as a drunk driver.
according to the article, “concerns about distracted driving seem to be growing. eighty percent said using a hand-held cellphone while driving should be illegal, up from 69 percent in a 2001 abc news poll.” americans seem to think that hands-free gabbing is ok, even though research shows that it is still a significant risk.
in case you’re not convinced, the british think it’s no joke either. here’s a sobering p.s.a. that made the rounds this summer.
