the claude monet painting, le bassin aux nympheas fetched a record $80M at auction today. this beat out the previous record for a monet when le pont du chemin de fer a argenteuil sold in may for $41M. the proud owners wish to remain anonymous. my bet is that it was purchased by the jolie-pitts to furnish their new $60M pad in france. i mean, with all those kids it would take them 10 hours to walk to a pond or a bridge like that given the size of the joint. i guess they figured they could just gaze at the countryside from the couch. they just look like people with money now that they live in france.
