black guy walks into a bar…
people want to know now if, because barack obama is now the president elect, whether it’s ok to include jokes that reference black people/african americans and they’re looking very hard for the answer. for example:
- larry king discussed it with chris rock and bill maher
- used to be funny guy bill cosby weighed in on whether the huxtables paved the way for the obamas
- tommy davidson, a former regular on in living color has already worked obama into his sketch
funny thing is, i couldn’t find many articles asking white comedians whether they’d feel more comfy talking about black people now. i did find one article from july right about the time of the new yorker controversy, which talked about how difficult it was for white comedians to joke about obama (seems people of all persuasians had problem being ageist making old jokes about mccain).
so i’m going to go out on a limb and say we won’t be hearing tons of jokes about blacks in the coming months. but if they do get an astrologer, i say all bets are off.
what do you think?
