bracket time
spring is in the air (sort of) and like the annual toad migration, march brings with the most jam packed month of college basketball, march madness.
think you’re a fan? here’s some facts you probably didn’t know from askmen.com:
- the odds of picking the right teams to get a perfect bracket are 9.2 quintillion to 1. so don’t feel bad if you only get two.
- the winning school gets to keep the court, literally. they are free to do whatever they want with the hardwood court the final game was played on. some schools move it to their home court, some have sold pieces, other have done nothing with it.
- we’re a betting nation. the fbi estimates that about 2.5 billion dollars of illegal bets are placed each year on the tournament.
- the ncaa makes no money from march madness. despite the billions of dollars in revenue the event generates, the ncaa doesn’t keep any of it. instead they are shared by the schools and conferences participating in the event.
- the underdog never wins. no 16 seed team has ever won, the record currently stands at 0 for 96.
