but will you need a voltage converter?
strange world we live in (and maybe the next one too). a growing trend funeral professionals are seeing these days are more and more cell phones, blackberries, and iPods going into coffins with their departed owners. seems that some people do it the same way they might include a memento in a casket, like a family photo. here’s some suggestions you might want to consider if you’re planning to update your will:
- leave instructions to have your headphones put on your ear and the ipod turned on
- have your headstone inscribed with your cell phone number and be buried with your cell phone, along with a extra battery. make sure a family member continues to pay the phone bill so that your service doesn’t get turned off and so that you’ll still get the voice messages, even after the battery is drained
- set up your cell phone with a specific ring tone and having someone call you while the coffin is being lowered to the ground
- set your cell phone to vibrate and have people call you and leave messages during the wake/viewing. this way, people can see the incoming calls but the ring doesn’t disrupt everyone
a definite DON’T at the funeral, having someone use twitter to send live updates during the actual ceremony. a few months ago, a local paper was criticized when one of its reporters got creative. rather than waiting until after the funeral of a local 3 year old boy to report on it, he thought he’d send updates via the paper’s twitter account.
