chipotle
i’m surprised it didn’t make the list of the top 10 mispronounced foodie words (maybe chipotle isn’t foodie-enough). it’s pronounced ‘chi-po-t-lay’ not ‘chip-ol-tee’. just like realtor is pronounced ‘real-tour’ not ‘real-a-tor’. anyway, here’s the list via the chicago tribune.
- Bruschetta (broo-SKEH-tah)
- Gnocchi (NYOH-kee)
- Gyro (YEER-oh)
- Huitlacoche (wheet-lah-KOH-chay)
- Pouilly-Fuisse (poo-yee fwee-SAY)
- Mole (MOH-lay)
- Paczki (POONCH-key)
- Pho (fuh)
- Prosciutto (proh-SHOO-toe)
- Sake (SAH-kay)

Never had a class with prof r. This was the class where we spent most of the semester learning how to write a survey (it’s really not that complicated) and i wasn’t able to convince my group that you shouldn’t use a 40 slide ppt for a 10 minute presentation. Fun times…
might I suggest an IPA (international phonetic alphabet) dictionary? It is the bible for those of us who need to pronounce the impossible in front of many listeners…..Perhaps it will help those of you stuck at that all important lunch to pronounce the impossible…..
just a thought….

the professor in a marketing class i took last year could not say chipotle to save his life. one of the team names of a group project the class was working on was chipotle since that was the company they picked and the professor was never able to call the team by their name.
