doctors orders?
the case of the boy who refused chemo gets uglier by the day. last week a judge ruled that 13 year old daniel hauser has been “medically neglected” by his parents and if needed, he must undergo chemo treatment for hodgkin’s lymphoma despite his parent’s objections. if it was determined he needed to undergo the chemo and his parents did not comply, the parents and son might get separated to ensure that the son was treated. daniel, for his part, has said he would kick and punch to resist treatment. late today a warrant was issued for the arrest of the mother when neither she nor daniel showed up for a court appearance. it’s likely they skipped town to avoid the deadline today of a court order to get daniel a chest x-ray and the selection of an oncologist.
the hausers are refusing treatment for religious reasons, instead they are hoping “alternative medicines” will cure him. doctors are saying that without the chemo treatment, his chances of survival are 5%, with the treatmeat, 90%. either way, let’s hope it all works out and daniel gets better.
