throwing the baby out with the bath water

cbs announced that the longest running soap opera in history, guiding light will end on september 18, 2009.  the show has been broadcast over the airwaves (radio and television) for 72 years and started airing on cbs tv in 1952.  the shows ratings have been in decline for a number of years and the producers have tried different strategies to garner more viewers.  as an example last year, it went modern and digital and introduced “hand-held digital cameras and permanent, four-wall sets as opposed to the traditional, constantly reconstructed three-wall sets built by soaps to accommodate bulky pedestal cameras [and] rather than expensive lighting and sound equipment, the show also began using hand-held lights and microphones.”  proctor and gamble, the show’s owner will look toward for other homes for the program.  i think there’s a digital future for the soap as digital sites like hulu and web-distributed programs like battlestar gallactica are huge on the internet.

i wonder if she had her baby at general hospital?
