gulp when you check out yelp

rating_dist_graphhere is an interesting story via gawker and venture beat.  seems that the contributors on yelp! tend to use similar rating when reviewing a restaurant.  apparently, when they rate a dining experience “they award four or five stars 69 percent of the time”.  venture beat says “there are so many reviews that it’s virtually impossible to have a perfect record, yet people are reluctant to hand out one- or two-star ratings. And when you’re looking for a fast solution on where to eat, a list full of four-star restaurants makes for an overwhelming “paradox of choice” situation.”  peeps at yelp say that to figure out whether you should lay down your hard earned money at a restaurant, you do need to read the many reviews (research for yourself).  gawker notably suggested that this will ultimately help yelp with more page views and ad clicks.  funny that. next time you’re checking out a restaurant sounds like you should take that grain of salt with you.
