bank of america is getting a lot of bad press lately and it’s not because of bailouts or ceo compensations. instead it’s because steve valdez went into a bank of america branch in tampa florida and wasn’t able to cash a check made out to him from his wife, who had an account there. the bank’s policy is that if someone doesn’t have an account, they are still able to cash a check but they needed to leave a thumbprint. seems reasonable except valdez doesn’t have a thumbprint, he was born without arms and uses prosthetics. even with two forms of id, the bank was not willing to cash valdez’s check. corporate office for bank of america are blaming the local branch saying their policies do allow the substitution of two forms of id in exchange for a thumbprint in these types of instances. valdez has said he only wants the branch to come into compliance but when asked if he would sue, he responded “I’m taking it one day at a time.”
*180’s kraft story got me craving sweets and all i could think about while reading this story was thumbprint cookies. anyone got a good recipe??
