imelda marcos, not so poor anymore
recently listed as one of the greediest people of all time by newsweek magazine, former first lady of the philippines, imelda marcos, was quite proud of the designation. she said “For me, greedy is giving. I was First Lady for 20 years; you have to be greedy first to give to all. It is natural.” she must be talking about the 15 mink coats, 508 gowns, 888 handbags and 1060 pairs of shoes she “gave away” when a military coup caused her family to fled to the hawaii in 1986. since then imelda has been crying poor and has even had to use her husband’s military pension to make ends meet. well, imelda must be celebrating this week. the manilan government has returned $310 million dollars in jewelry that was originally confiscated from her. because some lazy government official forgot to officially claim the jewelry, it was found to officially still belong to the marcos family. i’m sure as i’m writing this, imelda is out making some shoe salesman very happy.
