in the footloose remake, will they burn books or melt kindles?
the electronic book, version 2.0 debuted today and flaunted new features — it lost weight, got a slicker front end (screen) and back-end (storage) and has extended go-time (battery), “the new kindle 2 is just 0.36 inches wide–25% thinner than the iphone–and has dropped the last version’s asymmetric, clunky design, oversized page-turning buttons, off-white color and primitive scroll wheel….it’s a flat, white sheet of compact electronics, with rounded edges, small buttons and a brushed-metal back panel.”
version 2.0, introduced by amazon.com’s jeff bezos didn’t wow everyone. analysts like james mcquivey of forrester said “a faster screen and better battery life are nice, but i’m not really sure i’d call this quite ‘2.0′ …it really just delivers on all the things like design and shape that anyone with experience in product design knew needed to get fixed the moment [the first kindle] arrived on shelves.”
the most recent ad for the do-no-wrong iphone says that it has a book reader, but i having an iphone, i know how annoying it would be to read a whole book on that platform, let alone an article (especially when perusing a book from gwynnie’s list). i admit, the kindle is getting much more appealing to me.
i wasn’t kidding about the footloose remake–it’s directed by the same guy that did dirty dancing.
