next time, send a postcard

postcarddo you have friends that over-share via facebook status?  do they tell you about the sandwich they just ate? the nose they just picked? the job they hate? well, some dude named maxi sopo is feeling like a neo-maxi zoom dweebie because of the mistake he made over-sharing on facebook.

maxi was a fugitive from the law, wanted for bank fraud and taking $200K from seattle banks.  while on the lamb he made the mistake of a) befriending a former justice department official and b) bragging about the good life  (in one status update he said, just want to parteeeeeee). now he’s waiting to be extradited to the united states. ouch.

what could maxi have done differently short of making like miley?

he could have rode the google wave.  google’s wave is an “online tool for real-time communication and collaboration” and actually has some privacy.  according to pcworld “you can choose exactly which of your contacts you want to share the wave with. those contacts can make comments or ask questions that are seen by the whole group.”  the best news is, it already works on the iphone (come to think of it, maxi could have done his banking there too).

all of these features mean that it’s better than facebook where there’s a good chance that your mom will see the picture of you drinking from a beer bong or your boss will see you in a bikini on your holiday.  so clearly, it would have helped maxi out too. unfortunately, it’s only in beta and open to a select 100K users, but it’s coming soon to a cloud near you.
