snl hates blind people

according to chris danielsen, the spokesman for the national federation of the blind, last saturday’s snl skit with fred armisen playing nyc’s governor paterson in the weekend update segment is not the first offense against the blind. danielsen points out that snl’s recent joke about the blind not being able to hear the engine of hybrid cards (also in a weekend update segment) and eddie murphy’s classic stevie wonder impression shows that snl has a history of making fun of the blind.

governor paterson, who’s been known to make fun of himself for not being able to see, is upset the skit might led people to believe “disability goes hand-in-hand with an inability to run a government or business.”

i don’t watch snl much but i did catch this on saturday before all the controversy. i didn’t think it came off as offensive (but of course, i’m not blind) nor did it make me any less likely to hire a blind person.  what do you think?
