political pressure forced stephen spielberg to bow out of his olympics consuling gig but it seems as though the folks at emily post or martha stewart decided to opt in. so as not to offend visitors, the chinese government has issued some guidelines about what not to wear and beijing gets special attention during the games. the rulebook (a 36 page booklet accompanied by no fewer than 9 websites) identifies guidelines for men and women such as:
do
comb hair appropriately for one’s age (all)
wear darker stockings to disguise think ankles (women)
match skirt lengths to age (women)
dont
wear more than three colors at a time (all)
wear pajamas in public (men)
roll up pants (men)
show chest hair (men)
wear horizontal stripes (all fat people)
sport white socks with sandals (men)
officials decided to go forward with this campaign based on the success of the other campaigns–they were able to curb public spitting and manage taxi driver’s bad breath.
