why do you think i smile all the time?*
the advocate picked the gayest cities in america. the winner is, wait for it….the ATL (or hotlanta as they like to call it). the atl was followed by burlington vt, iowa city, bloomington, in, madison, wis, new orleans, la, fort lauderdale, fla, portland, me, austin, tx, seattle, wa, gainsville, fla, ashville, nc, springfield, ma, san diego, ca, and albuquerque, nm. how’d they pick these cities you ask? well, they used an interesting set of metrics:
- the number of same-sex couple households per capita
- gay elected officials
- gay dating and hookup profiles per single male population
- gay bars per capita
- cruising spots per capita
- gay films in netflix favorites
and whether or not there is
- statewide marriage equality
new york, san francisco, chicago, didn’t make the list. at all. weird.
