despite the role models that have been placed before the altar of virginity (jamie-lynn), new figures revealed that the teen pregnancy rate is at a 16 year high. researchers attribute the rise in knocked-upedness to the proliferation of abstinence-only sex-ed classes popping up all over. the guttmacher institute says that in 2006 there were “71.5 pregnancies for every 1,000, 15- to 19-year-old girls, compared to 69.5 pregnancies per 1,000 girls in the same age group in 2005, when the US teen pregnancy rate reached its lowest point in more than 30 years.” the research goes on to say that “”There’s a strong body of evidence that these abstinence-only programs simply do not work: they don’t help teens to either delay sex or increase contraceptive use when they do become sexually active.” i mean, britney spears read that and said “no sh&(t sherlock”.
i wonder how this is going over with bristol palin who was interviewed/interrogated by oprah last week about her abstinence pledge and campaign.
