psst… can you tell me where the Enter key is?

political blogs, facebook pages, twitter accounts, online videos and online fundraising are just a few of the ways technology has played a role in this year’s elections. so how does obama and mccain match up in their understanding of technology? we only need to look a couple of examples to get an idea of who’s ahead:

obama: campaign website contains a technology agenda which integrates issues such as education, sciences, and immigration.

mccain: calls himself a “computer illiterate” and said in the youtube republican debate that he’d need a vp to help with “information technology” issues. to be fair, mccain’s technology and telecommunications policy agenda is expected “any day now”.

obama: announced via twitter yesterday that the democratic vp candidate will be announced “sometime between now & the Convention by txt msg & email” and provides a link for people to sign up.

mccain: most recent online effort has been to recruit volunteers to spread campaign messages by commenting on blogs and message boards with prewritten messages by the campaign. like at the arcade, the volunteers collect points for the postings to trade in for mccain perks such as autographed books.

in 2000, mccain led the pack and stunned everyone with his tech savvy in online fundraising. it’s gotta gotta make you wonder where he’s been these past eight years and if elected, whether he (and by extension, america) will be able to keep up the pace with the world.
