campbell brown, cutting through the bull, for real
cnn announced today that campbell brown is being released from her contract and will be leaving cnn. said brown on why she’s leaving “…I have never had much tolerance for others’ spin, so I can’t imagine trying to stomach my own. The simple fact is that not enough people want to watch my program, and I owe it to myself and to CNN to get out of the way so that CNN can try something else. CNN will have to figure out what that is. The 8pm hour in cable news world is currently driven by the indomitable Bill O’Reilly, Nancy Grace and Keith Olbermann. Shedding my own journalistic skin to try to inhabit the kind of persona that might co-exist in that line up is simply impossible for me. “ when brown was at nbc, she averaged a viewship of 8 million, now she’s barely pulling in 350,000.
the show proceeding brown’s, john king, usa, has had dismal ratings since it started so maybe now is a good time for cnn to wipe out its prime out programming and reconfigure. who would you like to see instead?

like her on the today show but i wasn’t a fan of her cnn show. it’ll be interesting to see if where she lands. can’t imagine her at fox at all.
Its a real shame that Bill didnt take a page out of the Peter Jennings play book….He couldav been further along in his career now….Ah well….
He’d be way ahead of the game if he’d taken the WH correspondent’s job at CNN. Look at Wolf! Look at John King (even with a schnozz the size of Massachusetts!)
what would you guys consider “way ahead of the game”? in terms of viewership, america’s newsroom is the leader in cable news during that time slot. fox news totally dominates in just about every other hour of programming, including over network news.
i wonder if john king’s show will last. against shep, i’m not sure he had much of a chance going in but the numbers have been lower than expected.
“Way ahead of the game” isnt a phrase that I think of….More “further along in his career”….
630 I thought the network news shows were well into the multi millions? Am I wrong? Bret Baier Special Report still doesnt come close to that is my understanding….And I am not sure that FR does either for that matter….OReilly brings in highest viewership and he has only topped 3 million….Katie in third place still beats that….
Most adult Americans know who Diane Sawyer, Brian Williams and Katie Couric are (and its fair to say that the morning broadcast morning shows really are the big money makers, not the nightly news shows)….
Most people dont know who Bret Baeir is….
Scar….King’s working for the AP has sharpened his skills, esp political. You should see him break down by district when he is doing election results and explaining the nuts and bolts of any given race
His “magic wall” and how he utilized made Bill’s “billboard” look like a stick figure to a Monet painting.
I checked the viewership of the broadcast nightly news shows. Cable doesnt come close. Not even OReilly
Week of May 17th.
In order NBC, ABC, CBS
• Total: 7,670,000 6,920,000 5,340,000
• A25-54: 2,260,000 2,000,000 1,700,000
wenchie, not sure which cable numbers you’re looking at but according to nielsen media, baier’s numbers for yesterday was 1.93mil, 440k for A25-54 (via tvnewser). that averages out to almost 10 million per week against the weekly numbers you provided beating out even nbc. o’reilly’s was 2.8 mil. while it may be true that most people know who the network news anchors are, i’m not so sure this will still be in the case in another 10 years.
ethics and politics aside, if hemmer’s goal is to gain more viewers, fox is probably the best place for him to (whether we like him there or not). maybe he’ll do dancing with the stars next season, i hear that gets good ratings too =)
“maybe he’ll do dancing with the stars next season, i hear that gets good ratings too =)”
That’s hilarious! I should do a Chad on that.
DWTS…LOL….
No clue as to what his professional goals are that is for sure…
….and nowadays when it comes to the news media, a job IS a job. Which means it’s not unemployment..
HA! Either way…Ive had enough of AN….so he is minus one viewer…Poor guy

She will be picked up by Fox in 3…2…
