got $100,000 to spare?

in addition to rupert murdoch and tim russert, jeff han was named one of time magazine’s 100 influential people in 2008. if you’ve been watching cnn’s or fox news’ election coverage, you know han’s invention well. cnn calls theirs the “magic board”, their magician – john king. fox news calls it the “bill board”, named after it’s handler, bill hemmer (who himself refers to it as the “bill board” – weird). mtv has done recorded two different profiles on site with the board, one of cnn and one of fox news. other write-ups have compared the two users of the board. apparently the CIA is now using it too and i’ve heard that cnn is getting a second one.

on the whole, we as television viewers don’t see a lot of how technology has impacted the news industry, at least not in terms of the view experience. i’ll be curious to see how and how often the board is used after the election coverage. i’ve heard the board cost just over $100,000, quite a hefty price for just a few months.
