i’m getting a haircut tomorrow

i was having a conversation the other day with a friend about how competitive the news business was and how it was nearly impossible for news people to lead normal lives. the long hours, the constant stress of being connected to what’s going on all over the world, the last minute “the news waits for no one” cancellations to social events, it’s all necessary to get and stay on top.

turns out that’s wrong. the long hours and the hard work means nothing. the emmy awards, not so important. age and beauty, now that will get you a job.

daryn kagan, ex-cnner, talks about how she had a hard time getting a national job until she followed some advice and got a haircut. two weeks later, she got a job at cnn.

daryn, we’re glad you didn’t try getting another haircut to save your job at cnn. you’ve got a much better setup now.
