look the other way, pretend it’s not happening
this morning’s 7-9am segment of the today show was pre-taped in beijing before moving to a live show for the 9am segment. it seems that matt lauer wasn’t available at 8am this morning for the show because he was at the olympic opening cermony. confused because nbc has been billing the “live” opening cermony for 8pm tonight?
in reality, the opening ceremonies started around 8am (eastern standard time) this morning (the equivalent of 8pm in china). other countries such as canada are broadcasted the ceremony live whereas for some odd reason, nbc decided to hold it for primetime. other morning shows included coverage of the ceremony even though they had no actual video of the cermony since nbc has sole rights to cover the olympics. the today show didn’t even acknowledge the cermony was going on. like a little dog i know, nbc seems to think that if they look the other way, it’s not really happening.
unfortunately for nbc, their exclusive coverage doesn’t include the internet. clips of the ceremony are already appearing online. if you can’t wait until tonight, here’s one to tide you over.
