one up, one down (cnn)

life in the media world.. you never know when when you’re going to get promoted or when you’ll be shown out the door.   there’s no bigger rise and fall than dan abramsstint at msnbc from anchor to general manager back to anchor and finally to “chief legal correspondent” (which is seemingly a lame duck role).

two moves worthy of note at cnn recently:

up – ali velshi
velshi was recently moved up to chief business correspondent from his previous position of senior business correspondent. not sure what that means, duty wise, exactly but it makes sense with all the gloom and doom news on the financial front and unlike fox news, cnn doesn’t have a cnn business channel to supplement their reporting.

down – miles o’brien
cnn killed it’s science and technology unit this week leaving o’brien and six producers very down (and out the door). you wouldn’t have to ask why if you saw the “special series” on “aliens” that aired on american morning last week.  o’brien’s raise and fall at cnn almost rivals abram’s. rising to anchor of cnn’s prime morning program, american morning, in 2005, o’brien lasted less than 2 years before being knocked back down to chief tech and space correspondent aka the “space” guy filling in when other anchors were out and doing occassional reporting.

some upcoming shakeups we’re looking out for:
