punk’d

first it was a prank call to sarah palin supposedly from french president, nicolas sarkozy. this time it’s a fake letter from the mayor of paris. what is it about people impersonating the french?

the letter, criticizing caroline kennedy’s bid for clinton’s vacated senate seat was published by the new york times yesterday. calling it “not very democratic”, the letter stated that it was in “very poor taste” and that although the “french have been consistently admiring of the American Constitution”, we were in an “american decline”. the new york times received the emailed letter and didn’t bother to check its authenticity before printing it. it wasn’t until the mayor’s office got wind that the times staff got a clue. fact checkers must’ve been part those who were layoffs this past november.
