what you don’t see is always more interesting
there’s been a lot of criticism that the mccain campaign was/is “hiding” sarah palin by not giving the media access directly to her. after reading the original transcript of her interview with abc’s charles gibson, i can see why the mccain campaign might be cautious.
the clips being replayed from the interview include her pro war attitude, not just with russia but even potentially with iran and her response to the bush doctrine of self defense. joked about, her comments about being able to see russia from alaska seemed like a weak response to gibson’s question until you read the transcript and realize that she used that line to support her real response.
there’s also been some who think that abc deliberately shot the interview in an angle that makes palin look small in comparison to gibson (check out the photo above).
the biggest point for the mccain campaign is the following:
gibson: You said recently, in your old church, “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?
palin: You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.
gibson: Exact words.
the bolded copy was edited out and a clip of her original statement was inserted as her reponse. what it did not include was her actual response :
“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”
the mccain campaign is saying that she was misrepresented, she was not saying that the iraq war is a task from god (read holy war) but instead she’s asking the church to pray that it is a task from god.
did abc misrepresent her? decide for yourself and check out mark levin’s copy of the unedited official abc news transcript which shows the edited portions in bold. an interview with sean hannity is next, it’ll be interesting to see how she fares with fox news.

that interview confirmed my initial thoughts that palin is unqualified (not that bush is)..but what surprised me is how unknowledgable is..not only did she answer multiple different questions with a canned answer that had nothing to do with the topic, but she didnt know about the bush doctrine..who isn’t familiar with the bush doctrine in this world we live in?!?
