this was not the advisory panel
a federal advisory panel has recommended that the government put a ban on vicodin, percocet, and their generic equivalents–drugs prescribed 100M times per year in the us. the ban is recommended because the drugs are mixed with acetaminophen that is known to cause liver damage (not because of the booze they often guzzle them down with). even though acetominophen can take away a headache and bring down a fever — “recommended doses can cause liver damage in some people…more than 400 people die and 42,000 are hospitalized every year in the united states from overdoses.”
the advisory panel went on to say that many patients who take drugs like percocet and vicodin for long periods of times often need higher and higher doses to achieve the same effect.
