to sallie mae, your ex, your kids, or some combination of them all. about $1B in stimulous rebate checks were confiscated by the u.s. treasury to pay down the debts of the deadbeats on-track to receive them. of that $1B:
- 55% went for child support
- 39% went for for federal debts such as student loans or farm loans
- 6% went for unpaid state taxes
luckily, the money is sent directly to the payee owed the money. let’s hope the recipients didn’t hop on a plane to hawaii–the money would be gone in an instant.
