no layover in afghanistan required!
before monday, one of the only ways you could get to cuba was to get picked up as an enemy combatant on the battlefield in afghanistan. since orange doesn’t look that good on me, i was glad to see that the obama administration lifted the ban on american travel to cuba for citizens with family members living there (they’ll be able to travel and spend money more freely). an official said that the “intent is to try to test the waters and see if we can get cuba to move in another direction…one way of getting the regime to open up may be to let people travel, increase exchanges and get money flowing to the island”—as part of this they added broader mobile phone and television services to cuba too. a logical next step would be to open up travel there to the rest of the american population. last week a bipartisan group of senators “proposed legislation that would prevent the president from stopping travel to cuba by all americans except in cases of war, imminent danger to public health or threats to the physical safety of u.s. travelers.”
now we’ll be able to see what that miss universe chick was raving about. me, I personally want to spend new years 2011 there. they made it look so cool in the godfather part ii (except for the not so nice condemnation).
